If you are under the age of 18, then you may drive with anyone who is 25 or older. The person who is 25 or older must posses a valid California driver's license, and must be sitting in the front passenger seat next to you. That person must also be sober and in a condition to be able to assist you if necessary. If those requirements are met, then you may drive anywhere in the State of California, at any time of day or night, with anybody else in the car too, as long as the 25 or older person is next to you.

If you are 18 or older, then you may drive with anyone who is also 18 or older, as long as all the other rules above are also met.
